Smith Kacoon Sea Bass
Saturday, June 27, 2009 We had dinner at Dan's last night (epic barbie, thanks mate!) and after a few beers I raided the stock room just before leaving! I've been wanting to try out some more of our Smith lures this year after having had some joy with the Saruna 125 so with an early boat trip planned I left with a bunch of stuff including a Smith Kacoon Sea Bass and a Smith Zip Sea Pop. Before we got on the boat I had a quick few casts from the shore with the Kacoon Sea Bass and it didn't disapoint taking a small schoolie that put up a good fight on the Blow Shot. After that we had a beautiful run out in the boat, it was flat calm and fish were breaking the surface everywhere. Dela (the one with the pollack below) landed 2 small schoolies on various Flash Minnow 110's and I lost another small fish on the Kacoon. The water was gin clear with around 15tft visability and there were loads of sandeels and baitfish knocking around - not a bad way to start the day.
I was really pleased with the Kacoon Sea Bass it's a great little lure that I'm sure will take more fish this year. It's a small, sinking lure that you can work either walk the dog style sub surface or with a jerk, sink action. On pause the Kacoon sinks slowly in an almost vertical position giving the impression of a dying bait fish on retrieve. Pics below, we'll be back out tomorrow morning.
The little guy met us for a swim when we got back, he seems to love the water too!!
